BUSINESS PROBLEM

In today’s data-driven world, much of the critical data that could help solve pressing urban challenges, such as optimizing traffic flow, improving public infrastructure, and enabling sustainable mobility, remains locked away from private companies. Despite growing awareness of the benefits of sharing data, most existing frameworks are theoretical and address partial problems, with few practical examples of how cities can access and use this data. Cities, in particular, face significant obstacles, including regulatory barriers, data protection concerns, and a lack of clear models for sharing data safely and responsibly.

DRIBIA’S SOLUTION

The New Hanse initiative, developed in collaboration with the City of Hamburg and with the participation of experts from Dribia, aims to bridge this gap by creating a scalable model for sharing urban data. Initially focused on mobility data, The New Hanse offers a structured approach to enable secure and responsible exchange between private companies and public entities. By addressing legal, political and technological challenges, it facilitates the use of data to drive smarter regulations, improve public services and foster sustainable urban development. The project not only empowers cities, but also encourages private companies to contribute to the public good, unlocking collective benefits while safeguarding privacy and competitiveness.
